A free virtual symposium for library staff focused on their health and wellness. From the Network of the National Library of Medicine, Greater Midwest Region at the University of Iowa.

This three-day virtual symposium will bring together experts on morale, invisible services, vocational awe, burnout, and self-care in libraries. The symposium will provide library staff at all levels, including management, with key takeaways to improve library staff's health and wellness. This event is open to all library staff regardless of employment status and to library science students.

The symposium will provide 8 Continuing Education (CE) credits from the Medical Library Association.

Objectives:

To provide educational and inspirational speakers to increase attendee knowledge related to self-care and wellness.
To provide network members an opportunity to collaborate, share expertise, and recharge their spirit.
Increase understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and disability among NLM members
Provide access to research and resources to improve library staff health and wellness
Engage with library members

Bobbi Newman

Community Engagement and Outreach Specialist

Network of the National Library of Medicine, Greater Midwest Region, University of Iowa

Bobbi Newman is a librarian, writer, consultant, library advocate, and international speaker. Newman currently serves as a member of the Advisory Board for Let’s Move in Libraries. She is the co-editor of Protecting Patron Privacy: a LITA Guide, co-author of the forthcoming Fostering Wellness in the Workplace for Libraries, and author of the award-winning blog, Librarian by Day.

Colette Beaulieu

Office Manager/Technology Support, Network of the National Library of Medicine, Southeastern/Atlantic Region, University of Maryland, Baltimore

Colette has been a staff member of the NNLM SEA Region since 1986. She is a member of several NNLM workgroups. She also serves as Chair of the University System of Maryland, Council of University System Staff (CUSS) Benefits and Compensation committee.

Sarah Dickey

Program Manager, Network of the National Library of Medicine Training Office. Sarah has been working with the Training Office for eight years. During that time she has worked on many wellness initiatives at the Eccles Health Sciences Library at the University of Utah.

Emily Hamstra

Emily Hamstra is the Outreach Coordinator for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Pacific Northwest Region. She has worked in an academic library, public library, and for a library vendor. Emily is active in the Reference and User Services Association’s Collection Development and Evaluation Section (RUSA-CODES).

Molly Knapp

Molly is a Training Development Specialist at the Network of the National Library of Medicine Training Office.

Margot Malachowski

Margot Malachowski is an Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Network of the National Library of Medicine in the New England Region. She provides training and support for educators, librarians, consumers and community organizations. Prior to coming to the NNLM, Margot worked as a medical librarian from 2008-2016. She worked in public libraries in Massachusetts and North Carolina from 1996-2008.
